The animal's brown eyes peered at Tom, full of innocence and trust. Without remorse, Tom placed the gun between those eyes and pulled the trigger. As he butchered the animal, he thought of sizzling steaks.
Later, he savored a mouthful. As the well_marbled meat slid down his throat, the animal began its own revenge.

"Anyway," the woman in the chair continued, "his wife's so gullible! Bill always says he's going bowling; she always believes him!'
The beautician smiled. "My husband William loves bowling."
Never used too... Goes all the now She paused, frowning.

"Let's start on your perm. You're gonna look unforgettable."

At last he would really show them. He'd picked the very best place to hide. They'd all say he could play the game better than anyone. When they found him, they'd clap their hands.
The dopes. How dumb can they get? They should have looked here first! It's so obvious!

She wet her lips, sighting along the barrel.

Wedding fever. Invitations mailed. But he's acting strange. Then a quarrel. He says it's over. Tells her to go. Tearfully, she writes cancellations.
"But, why?" she asks. "Why?"
A week passes. And another. She misses him terribly. She goes to his apartment and knocks.
She hears his voice. "Hey, Honey, answer the door, will ya?"

He sat facing her.
"I got friend today. They said I'm unstable."
She sat there silently. he turned away, looking at the slanting rain. His lips trembled.
"Nobody seems to care," he said.
Later dinner, her friend asked, "Anything wrong?"
Her fingers danced as she signed: "That_man_on_the_train. He_looked_upset."

Coincidentally, a few yards away, a girl made her own suicide plunge.
The two passed in midair.
Their eyes met.
Their chemistry clicked.
It was true love.

"You can't. You can not write a short story in just 55 words, you idiot!"
Sam shot him dead on the spot.

Shoppers stared.
"Help me! They're gone!" she cried.
someone whispered, "... old lady thinks"
"Old!" she exploded, "I'm only"
She froze. Her eyes shifted from face to face, from confusion to shame, then drifted to her own wrinkled hands.

The park bench's curvature felt familiar under his tired old spine.
The wool blanket from the Salvation Army was comfortable around his shoulders and the pair of shoes he'd found in the dumpster today fit perfectly.
God, he thought, isn't life grand.

"Yes," lied murderous William, who'd just escaped from prison

His shriek become a gurgle.
She flung the scalpel on the floorboard, and driving away, said to the writhing fingire : "I'm a surgeon."

The show must go on, said the director when the star dropped dead moments before act one. The star, not the understudy, would play the corpse tonight
The understudy changed quickly. His performance was inspired. The star was flawless in his final role.
The understudy, fingering the syringe in his pocket, bowed to thunderous applause.

Reginald Cooke had buried three wives before ha married Cecile Northwood.
"Tragic accident," he told her.
"How sad," replied Cecile. "Were they ... wealthy?"
"And beautiful," said Reginald.
They honeymooned in the Alps.
Later, Cecile told her new husband, You "know, darling my first husband died in a tragic mountaineering accident."
"How sad," replied Justin Marlow.
