درباره فدراسیون:
فدراسیون جهانی مترجمان در سال 1953 در پاریس توسط "پیر فرانس کالی" تاسیس شد. این انجمن از 50 کشور دنیا عضو دارد. فدراسیون جهانی برای 60000 مترجم عضو این انجمنها در هر 5 قاره دنیا منافع مادی و غیرمادی را فراهم میسازد.
فدراسیون، سازمان مترجمان حرفهای است که مطلقاً غیر سیاسی میباشد.
یونسکو، فدراسیون را در میان سازمانهای غیر دولتی در وضعیت "الف" دستهبندی کرده است. فدراسیون نیز رابطه بسیار نزدیکی با دیگر سازمانهای جهانی برقرار کرده است.
هدف اصلی:
فدراسیون جهانی مترجمان با بهرهگیری از کارگروههای تخصصی تلاش دارد تا نیازهای اعضا را در سراسر جهان با مطرح کردن مشکلات در کارگاههای آموزشی برطرف سازد.
دیگر اهداف:
اهداف عمده فدراسیون جهانی مترجمان عبارتند از:
الف) تجمیع انجمنهای مترجمی.
ب) حمایت و تسهیل تشکیل انجمنها در کشورهایی که این انجمنها وجود ندارند.
ج) ارائه اطلاعات و مشاوره به انجمنهای عضو.
د) ایجاد هماهنگی بیشتر میان انجمنهای عضو به منظور افزایش علاقه مترجمان.
ه) حمایت مادی و غیرمادی از مترجمان در سراسر جهان، تسریع در شناساندن ترجمه به عنوان یک حرفه، بالا بردن مقام مترجم در جامعه و تقدیر بیشتر از ترجمه به عنوان یک هنر و علم.
بیانیهی یونسکو دربارهی ارتقاء و صیانت از جایگاه ترجمه و مترجمان در سال 1976 نقطه عطفی در تاریخچهی فدراسیون میباشد. فدراسیون بدلیل موفقیتهایش برای حرفه مترجمی به خود میبالد و با توجه به نیاز روزافزون جامعه جهانی برای این کارها برنامه ریزی میکند. بنابراین فدراسیون جهانی مترجمان به ایفای نقش مهم خود در غلبه بر موانع زبان و گسترش هماهنگی در سطح دنیا ادامه میدهد.
تشکیلات فدراسیون جهانی مترجمان:
همایشهای بینالمللی فدراسیون هر سه سال یک بار برگزار میشوند. نشستها فرصتهای ایدهآلی را برای مترجمان فراهم میسازد تا یکدیگر را در فضای رسمی کارگاهها یا گفتگوهای دوستانه گروهها ملاقات کنند و پیرامون مشکلات کاری تبادل نظر کنند.
انجمن فدراسیون جهانی مترجمان به عنوان یک هیئت عالی اجرایی شناخته میشود که با برگزاری انتخابات در همایش، شورا و کمیسیون اجرایی انتخاب میشوند که وظیفهی آنها ادارهی امور جاری سازمان طی سه سال آینده میباشد. شورا و کمیسیون اجرایی از 20 هیئت و کمیته زیرگروه خود بطور مداوم گزارشهایی از فعالیتها و دستاوردهای خود دریافت میکنند.
مراکز منطقهای:
فدراسیون جهانی مترجمان مراکزی را در مناطق مختلف دنیا ایجاد کرده است تا در صورت نیاز اهداف خود را تبلیغ کرده و در مجموع فعالیتهایش را گسترش دهد. کمیسیون اجرایی هر منطقه جلساتی را در منطقه مربوطه برگزار میکند. بدینترتیب برای انجمنهای محلی عضو، فرصتی فراهم میگردد تا با یکدیگر گفتگو کرده و مشکلات را مطرح کنند. سپس انجمن مرکزی هر منطقه، شورای مرکزی فدراسیون را از مشکلات آگاه میسازد.
از سال 1986 فدراسیون جهانی مترجمان مرکز منطقهای شمال آمریکا(RCNA)، اروپا(RCE)، آمریکای لاتین(RCLA) و مرکز مجازی منطقهای آسیا(VARC) را ایجاد کرده است.
انتشارات:
مجله انگلیسی "بابل"(BABEL) و فرانسوی (TRANSLATIO) دو نشریهی ثابت فدراسیون جهانی میباشند که خوانندگان بسیاری را در داخل و خارج از سازمان جذب کردهاند.
شرح اقدامات هر همایش نیز منتشر میگردد که به عنوان منبع اطلاعاتی ارزشمندی برای علاقهمندان به سطوح مختلف حرفهی مترجمی به شمار میآید.
عضویت ایران در فدراسیون بینالمللی مترجمان
در شمارهی 49 فصلنامهی بیپل (نشر بین المللی ترجمه) 2003 در صفحهی 277 زیر عنوان عضو متقاضی عضویت، نام ایران به چشم میخورد، انجمن مترجمان کتبی و شفاهی ایران(ATLI) . این عضویت در حالی صورت گرفت که نام هیچ یک از مترجمان فنی و ادبی نامی ایران در این انجمن دیده نمیشد.
لازم به توضیح است فدراسیون بین المللی مترجمان درخواست عضویت را تنها از موسسات، انجمنها و یا جوامع مترجمان قبول میکند و نه به طور انفرادی از مترجمان.

Central Issues
Through its special committees, FIT endeavours to meet the needs of members throughout the world by addressing such issues as training, working conditions and recognition of the profession. The UNESCO Recommendation on the Protection and Improvement of the Legal and Social Status of Translations and Translators, adopted in Nairobi in 1976, is a milestone in the history of FIT.
FIT is proud of its achievements on behalf of the translating profession. At the same time, it is well aware of the work that remains to be done in order to meet the growing demand for international communication and cooperation. FIT, therefore, continues to play its vital role in overcoming language barriers and in promoting worldwide understanding.
Governing Bodies
FIT world congresses are held every three years. They afford translators with a unique opportunity to meet and discuss the problems of their profession in formal workshops and informal discussion groups. The FIT congress also serves as the supreme governing body of the organization. Following their election at the congress, a Council and an Executive Committee assume a three-year mandate to administer the organization's current business. They are supported by some twenty commissions and committees which regularly report on their work and achievements to Council and Congress.
Regional Centres
FIT creates Regional Centres, when deemed necessary, to promote its objectives and enhance its overall activities. The Executive Committee of a Regional Centre organizes meetings in its region to foster dialogue among local member associations, further the study of specific problems and inform the governing bodies of FIT of such problems. Since 1986, FIT has created the Regional Centre North-America (RCNA), the Regional Centre Europe (RCE), the Virtual Asian Regional Centre (VARC) and the Regional Centre Latin America (RCLA).
Publications
BABEL and Translatio are the two regular FIT publications, attracting a wide readership both inside and outside the organization. The proceedings of each congress are also published, and serve as a further source of valuable information to those interested in the many facets of the translating profession.
